  • As we announced last month, Seattle’s own Perfume Genius (aka Mike Hadreas) has a new album coming out this Spring, titled No Shape. Stream a video for the first single “Slip Away” below. Via a press release, Hadreas elaborates, “I pay my rent. I’m approaching health. The things that are bothering me personally now are less clear, more confusing. I don’t think I really figured them out with these songs. There’s something freeing about how I don’t have it figured out. Unpacking little morsels, magnifying my discomfort, wading through buried harm, laughing at or digging in to the embarrassing drama of it all. I may never come out the other side but it’s invigorating to try and hopefully, ultimately helpful. I think a lot of them are about trying to be happy in the face of whatever bullshit I created for myself or how horrible everything and everyone is.” No Shape hits stores on May 5th via Matador, and Perfume Genius will be playing Capitol Hill Block Party on Sunday, July 23rd. • Australian psych-faves (and Tame Impala off-shoot) POND share a new track from their forthcoming The Weather. Stream the title track below. Frontman Nick Allbrook describes the album as “a concept album, not completely about Perth, but focusing on all the weird contradictory things that make up a lot of colonial cities around the world. Laying out all the dark things underneath the shimmering exterior of cranes, development, money and white privilege. It’s not our place, but it is our place. British, but Australian, but not REAL Australian. On the edge of the world with a hell of a lot of fucked things defining our little city, still we try and live a wholesome respectful life, while being inherently disrespectful. At the end of all this confusion in our weird little white antipodean world, there’s the beach, purity and nature that brings us all together.” KEXP presents POND on Friday, April 28th at Neumos. • The 2017 Record Store Day releases have been announced, and includes releases from Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Lou Reed, as well as a 7″ of Andre 3000 covering the Beatles, a 12″ single from the War on Drugs, a limited edition Run the Jewels tote bag, and more fun. Check out the full list here, and get ready for the hunt on April 22nd. [ Spin ]
  • With his new album Pure Comedy slated for a April 7th release via Sub Pop/Bella Union, Father John Misty is keeping very busy. Earlier this week, he shared three “generic pop songs” which will not appear on the album. (Listen to them below.) He’s returned to Twitter. And now he’s selling a t-shirt with the simple refrain, “Why God Why,” thought to be a reference to what he said when he found out one of his songs was performed on reality TV competition show The Voice. Who knows what the guy will do next, but we do know he’ll be performing Wednesday, May 24th at the Paramount Theatre. [ Spin ]
